BRIT EUROPEAN ACQUIRES TANKPLUS

As part of its expansion plans, Brit European Transport Ltd has purchased the assets and goodwill of TankPlus Ltd for an undisclosed sum. All current employees will transfer with the business.

Brit European has annual sales of c.£40million and operates within the UK and Europe in a number of specialized transport areas including vehicle delivery, bilk chemical road tankers and carpet distribution.

TankPlus is a small independent operator in the fuel and bilk powder sectors and is based in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire.

Commenting on the deal, Graham Lackey Managing Director of Brit European Transport Ltd, explained the rationale behind the acquisition;

"We were looking to develop the size and scope of our Bulk Liquids Division and the TankPlus opportunity fitted the bill. We have no plans to change anything in the short to medium term as TankPlus appears to be working well and delivering what its current customers require. The location at Ellesmere Port however throws up some immediate opportunities for extending our tanker operations further"

BRIT EUROPEAN CHOSEN AS DUAL FUEL DEMONSTRATOR

UK to provide more than £11M to £23M alternative & dual-fuel heavy-duty vehicle demonstration program; more than 300 vehicles
23 August 2012
The UK government will provide more than £11 million (US$17.5 million) in support to a £23 million (US$36.6 million) demonstration program to encourage road haulage operators in the UK to buy and use lower carbon commercial vehicles.
The Government funding will help operators establish and run fleets of alternative & dual-fuel heavy-goods vehicles by meeting part of the difference in capital cost between traditional vehicles and their lower carbon equivalents. More than 300 low-carbon commercial vehicles will be involved in the demonstration program. The funding will also help meet the cost of the refuelling points for use by the trial fleets, including the provision of 11 new public access refuelling stations around the country, which will be available for use by other operators.
The demonstration trial fleets will be run for two years, during which time usage data will be gathered and analysed by the Department for Transport.
The thirteen demonstrator trials will be led by: Ascott Transport Ltd (Derbyshire), Brit European Transport Ltd (Crewe), CNG Services Ltd (Solihull; 2 trials), G-Volution Ltd (Newport, Gwent), Howard Tenens Associates Ltd (Gloucestershire & Wiltshire), J.B. Wheaton and Sons Ltd (Somerset), John Lewis Partnership plc (London), T Baden Hardstaff Ltd (Nottingham), Robert Wiseman Dairies (Glasgow), Tesco plc (Northants), The BOC Group (Guildford) and United Biscuits UK Ltd (Leicestershire).
The demonstrator trials include:
·    The John Lewis Partnership working with partners to demonstrate a 70% reduction in carbon emissions in a wide range of articulated vehicles. This will be achieved by combining recent research into truck aerodynamics with technology that substitutes the majority of the diesel used with bio-methane, and many other interventions.
·    A project led by G-Volution that will trial ten 44 tonne dual-fuel commercial HGVs using their patented dual fuel technology ‘Optimiser’ and biomethane. The articulated trucks, converted to dual-fuel, will be trialled alongside diesel equivalents, providing direct comparison data for different operating environments.
·    United Biscuits collaborative project, which proposes to exploit the value in used cooking oil by creating a renewable fuel solution for use in 44 tonne articulated vehicles in a way that is innovative and provides greater greenhouse gas savings than other liquid fuel.
·    J.B. Wheaton and Sons Ltd will trial, with other fleet operators, the use of 28 vehicles that will be fuelled from compressed natural gas or liquid natural gas blended with renewable biomethane to run dual fuel gas converted trucks. The project will also provide seven fixed refuelling stations & five mobile stations, which can be shared with other fleet operators.
·    Robert Wiseman Diaries, collaborating with Chive Fuels, Cenex and MIRA, will trial the use of 40 new warranted dual fuel 40 tonne articulated trucks substituting diesel with natural gas from two upgraded public access liquefied natural gas stations, one in the West Midlands and one in Scotland.
The program will be managed by Technology Strategy Board in partnership with the Department for Transport and the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV). OLEV is a cross-Whitehall team that has been established to manage a program of measures designed to promote uptake of the next-generation of ultra-low emission vehicle technologies. Comprising people and funding from the Departments for Transport; Business, Innovation and Skills; and Energy and Climate Change, OLEV is responsible for taking forward a national policy on this shared agenda.

GREG DRAPER'S CAR

Driver Trainer, Greg Draper, recently took delivery of his new company vehicle which, without stating the obvious, looks rather smart in the Company livery.

NEW TRAILERS

At Brit European we pride ourselves on our innovation and creativity when it comes to looking at different types of fleet for delivering our customers products. This has been apparent in designing the latest addition to our trailer fleet. We have now taken delivery of two new trailers manufactured by Chieftain Trailers in Northern Ireland. They will be working on the JCB contract moving machines from Staffordshire to various locations throughout the UK.

NEW BUSINESS AWARD

After some very hard work on behalf of Ed Beresford ably assisted in a small way by Andy Robinson (!) Brit European has been awarded a three year contract from Total Oil to transport lubricants from the Continent to the UK. Only joking about me taking all the plaudits as it was a team effort in winning this business - from our MD, Graham Lackey to the drivers who deliver the products.

We are all extremely pleased at this award here at Brit European as it further strengthens our presence in the chemical and lubricants markets.

AND YET ANOTHER NEW STARTER!!!

We have a new member of the Senior Management Team!
Andy Evans has joined Brit European today as the Fleet Optimisation Manager based at Radway Green. He will work closely with the heads of each division, the Quality & Training team and the teams at the outbased loading locations.

Andy comes with a wealth of experience in road transport and I am sure we will all give him the support he needs in his new role.

TRACY'S HERO

I am so proud of my soon to be step son Lance Corporal Kyle Campbell who is deployed on his second tour of Afghanistan. I wish him, his battalion (1st Battalion, One Mercian) and the other guys and girls serving out there, a safe and speedy return.

This picture is from the parade which took place in Congleton, Cheshire soon after he returned from his first tour to collect his medal.

Crikey, there are even more wedding bells in the air!!!!

As well as Sarah Bradbury I am now reliably informed that our Management Accountant Tracy Smith is also engaged! I believe she got engaged to Paul sometime in April but has so far kept it a secret. Well Tracy Smith your secret is out. Must have something to do with the ring on your finger.....!

Congratulations to you and Paul.

WEDDING BELLS ARE IN THE AIR!!!!!!!!

Warmest congratulations are sent to Sarah Bradbury, Management Trainee on her engagement to Dave on Saturday 23rd June 2012.

How do I know this? Because a little bird who resides close to her told me! I am not going to name names but that fella whose surname was Lionheart had the same first name as this person....

OGGI IS LEAVING US!

Ognian Shavarsky (Oggi to his friends) has decided that there is life outside of Brit European and is moving on to pastures new! As part of the High and Heavy operations team Oggi kept the JCB's moving and his dry sense of humour and sharp wit sometimes had everyone in stitches!

He leaves at the end of June. We all wish him well and hope that he keeps in touch.

MERCEDES-BENZ ONE ROOF EVENT

Please convey my thanks to those involved in supplying the CV transporter for our "one Roof" event held at the weekend.

The event was held to celebrate the relocation of the various Mercedes-Benz businesses in the UK under one roof - at Tongwell, and was open to all employees, their families and friends. Your transporter had pride of place - with all 2500 people who attended passing it's location at the entrance to the event.

Many thanks once again.

Regards

COMMERCIAL VEHICLE SHOW 2012

Well that's the Show over for another 12 months and what a Show it was! At Brit European we pride ourselves in presenting the right image in everything we do and without doubt the presence at the Show certainly did do us proud. The stand was fantastic and drew an awful lot of positive comments, not only from our customers who visited but also from members of the public and other exhibitors. We also had an outside display where we exhibited two trailers complete with loads and this again was a fantastic success. My thanks go to Rob Wardle and Alan Slattery for their help in getting the vehicles in place. Without them it would not have been possible.

GREG DRAPER

We are pleased to announce that Greg Draper has taken the role as Driver Trainer and joins Rob Wardle and Alan Slattery in the Training and Quality team. He will primarily be working with the very busy Car Division ensuring that the Quality of the Division remains as high as it is.

We all send Greg our best wishes for a successful career in his new role.
